Companies Registration Office- PPS Requirements
Are you aware that the Companies (Corporate Enforement Authority) Act 2021 will require PPS numbers to be used on all CRO forms for directors of Irish Companies.
Companies Registration Office- PPS Requirements
What is the new PPS number requirement and what is involved?
From the 11th of June 2023, the new requirement demands that all directors in Ireland put their Personal Public Service Number (PPSN or PPS number) on certain CRO forms, which are filing Forms A1, B1, B10 and B69. If you are a director of an Irish company and a non-resident in Ireland, the CRO has introduced its own identification to be used in place of a PPS number called an Identification Person Number or ‘IPN’.
This means for directors of Irish companies, their involvement with companies will be directly linked to their PPS, providing for greater transparency for government bodies, including Revenue Commissioners, The RBO and Social Welfare Offices.
Why is your PPS number required?
The Companies (Corporate Enforcement Authority) Act 2021 states a director shall include his/her personal public service number in:
- An application made under the act by him or her to incorporate a company.
- An annual return made under the Act by a company of which he or she is a director.
- A notice of change of directors or secretaries made under the act by the company of which he or she is a director.
The PPS number requirement will help to reduce the occurrence of identity theft in Ireland, where company filings are concerned.
Will the CRO store my PPS number?
When the mandatory PPS number data filed with the CRO has been validated, a PPS number will be retained securely in an irreversible hashed/encrypted format and stored securely. It will it be accessible by any member of the CRO or any other party, and it will never be shared with any third party. No publicly accessible form or document will display your PPS number.
